  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can (15 ounce) diced tomatoes undrained
  • 1 can (15 ounce) kidney beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  • Add the diced tomatoes (undrained), rinsed and drained kidney beans, and tomato sauce.
  • Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  • Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a richer flavor, you can simmer for longer.
  • Serve hot over your favorite hot dogs.

Optional toppings include shredded cheese, diced onions, or sour cream.
