  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cup milk
  • 1.5 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  • Sprinkle the flour over the onion and garlic mixture, stirring constantly for 1-2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.

  • Gradually whisk in the milk until the sauce is smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, until thickened.

  • Stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Add the sliced mushrooms to the cheese sauce and stir to coat. Pour the mushroom mixture into the prepared baking dish.

  • Top with the remaining 0.5 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
